Final report of the Killian Pretty Review published
Joanna Killian, Chief Executive of Essex County Council and David Pretty, who recently retired as Group Chief Executive of Barratt Developments PLC have published the findings of their review into the process for seeking planning permission.
The report, jointly commissioned by Communities and Local Government and Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Departments, identifies reasons for delays in deciding planning applications, and makes recommendations for dealing with these and reducing unnecessary burdens for all parties involved in the process.
The Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP, Minister for Housing, launched the report in a speech to The Work Foundation, London.
“I believe [the report makes] important steps forward in helping to make the planning system faster, fairer and more effective. In the current climate; this is more important than ever before” said Beckett.
Although she endorsed several of the report’s findings, Beckett stopped short of outlining the Government’s full response. She promised a full response in the early part of 2009, after consultation with key stakeholders.
