Land seminar unites development industry

A seminar detailing how developers can best promote strategic land opportunities in the UK was held in Birmingham bringing together key players in the building, development and planning sector.

The ‘Promoting Strategic Land Opportunities' seminar, jointly organised by Remarkable Property and Planning, JMP Consultants Ltd and Turley Associates, was aimed to guide companies through the maze of new planning policies for housing, retail and employment sites, discuss key transport infrastructure issues and explain the dos and don'ts of strategic site promotion.

It was chaired by Mike Best, office director for Turley Associates in Birmingham. Speakers - Stuart Sage, senior planner at Turley Associates, Paul Smith from JMP Consultants Ltd and Dan Hayman, director of the Remarkable Group - all addressed the topical subject.

Dan Hayman explained that it is essential for everyone with an interest in strategic land to have a clear understanding of how this process works. He said: "It was a great opportunity to show developers how they can achieve maximum results by thinking outside of the box. The objective was to demonstrate how to limit any planning objections that might arise and speed up the whole process.

He added: "The market is tough - stakeholders are more informed and council's are ever more demanding. Our clients need to be better prepared and demonstrate a better understanding of the areas in which they work if they want to get results. This seminar introduced some new approaches which we hope will be useful when they come to promote their future projects."

Stuart Sage from Turley Associates said: "We're delighted that the event was so well received. The promotion of strategic land through an increasingly complex planning process remains vital in the context of new Government guidance. This seminar highlighted the key challenges facing the Midlands, the opportunities that generates for developers and land owners and the importance of effective engagement."

Paul Smith from JMP said: "JMP, Turley Associates and Remarkable are all companies with extensive experience in promoting strategic sites. We hope that this three pronged approach of planning, transport and consultation advice was attractive to those looking to promote their sites in the near future."

The ‘Promoting Strategic Land Opportunities' seminar was held on Thursday 3 July at Malmaison, One Wharfside Street, Birmingham.
